“You don’t have to wear red lipstick to be a Firegirl. But it helps.”
- The Firegirl.
Have you ever found yourself saying, “I want to make my life matter but I don’t know how.”
You think about it, dream about it, buy gratitude journals, create vision boards on Pinterest, read self-help books and still day after day, you do the same old work, have drinks with the same old people, love your family in the same old ways.
The good news is you have a job! And friends! And family! The bad news is you have what we call “holy discontent.”
See, you have a destiny on your life and until you get busy doing that thing you were created to do, and loving a bunch of people along the way, your rut will only get narrower and deeper. It’s not about chasing happiness, it’s about living in your good purpose.
“But what do I do? I’ve tried everything and nothing changes,” you moan.
We get it. We’ve been there, but we got out.
HERE ARE SOME THINGS WE KNOW
Thing One - It’s difficult, maybe impossible to know what you were created for if you don’t know who created you. If you’re mad at the church or grossed out by religious behavior, we get that, but Jesus never said follow my followers, He said follow me. We can show you how to do that in a way that feels sane and true.
Thing Two - Once you get to know him, he’ll show you around his kingdom, which is not a place as much as it is a way of doing business.
In short: God is love. Jesus is love in human form and the only currency accepted in the Kingdom is your willingness to say yes to love. Is that news to you?
Thing Three - Even if you’re not a big church-goer, you might recall hearing the phrase “your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” It’s in the Lord’s prayer.
If you’ve had a look around lately, earth doesn’t much resemble heaven. It takes love, humility, sacrifice, conscious awareness, mind renewal, trust and discipline to bring heaven to earth, but doesn’t that sound interesting? That’s kingdom work.
The world needs Firegirls.
What do they look like?
Besides the red lipstick, a Firegirl is a woman has done the work to get out of her own way.
She’s disciplined, devoted and obedient. She refuses to live selfish even when it’s hard. She has allowed God to burn off every last thing in her life that is of no use to him. She’s purified now - refined like gold.
A Firegirl loves red lipstick and cute shoes but she knows they’re just for fun. It’s people and their stories that matter. She gives them her keen ear, her wild mind and her soft, red heart. A Firegirl creates and collaborates and reaches down to help other women climb the ladder.
A Firegirl is devoted to God and she’s often found curled up in his lap, talking to him, listening. She hears God all the time, and does her best to do as he says. He loves her and she loves him.
A Firegirl is fierce and funny, unafraid of the way God made her, but willing to change anything he asks, trusting that he sees her in ways she doesn’t yet see herself.
